The African Union has urged Kenyans to abide by the Supreme Court’s ruling on the presidential petition filed by the country’s opposition party, NASA.
The judges are expected to rule on the petition on Friday. The opposition filed a petition contesting the August 8th presidential elections.
The court has also been praised for taking up the case when the opposition decided to contest the results of the elections.
The union’s Peace and Security Council called on parties to desist from resorting to the use of violence as a way of expressing their disaffection over the outcomes of elections, but rather to make full use of available legal channels in resolving election-related disputes, the report said,
The council further said that it was agreed that it remains seized of the Kenyan post-election matter.
Kenya was commended for conducting the recent election peacefully and maintaining calm even after Uhuru Kenyatta was declared winner.
