It’s not everyday that an African artist is asked to sing on one of the world’s biggest animation company’s films. South African singer Lira has just recorded her own version of the theme song for Walt Disney’s latest animation Moana.
Lerato Molapo, known professionally as Lira, is a multi-platinum selling and an 11-times South African Music Award-winning Afro-Soul vocalist.
Lira’s version of the Disney film’s song titled ‘How far I’ll Go’ will feature in the South African version of the film. Lira also took to twitter to show her excitment for her latest venture.
Moana tells the story of a young Polynesian chief’s daughter, who is chosen by the ocean itself to reunite a mystical relic to a goddess in a bid to save her people.
According to local media, Lira recorded a special music video. The video gives fans a behind-the-scenes view of her journey and how the track was brought to life. Moana did hit South African cinemas since December 2.
